The music and worship program’s substantial emphasis on biblical and theological study makes it unique among similar programs and will allow you to enhance the worship experiences of your church and community. This program allows you to further your musical studies with an eventual goal of working in a church setting. You will gain knowledge of theology, church administration and worship leading while continuing to gain musical and theoretical technique and skills.
As a music and worship major or minor at Messiah University, you’ll be able to:
- Utilize Messiah's premier facilities for music students, including the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts
- Work in a local church as a student for your practicum requirement
- Study in a nationally accredited program
- Gain performance experience participating in one of the University’s vocal or instrumental ensembles
- Learn from faculty members who are accomplished artists and clinicians
- Complete an internship at a church, record label or concert venue, or take a semester to study commercial music and music recording in Nashville at the Contemporary Music Center
- Participate in the Messiah University Worship Community for regular chapel performances
- Lead worship at Powerhouse, a student-led weekly worship night held every Thursday in Hostetter Chapel
- Have access to the latest recording and sound technology in the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts

Messiah's unique approach to hands-on learning
Learning in the classroom is important but actually applying that knowledge in a hands-on way can make all the difference. At Messiah University, the Experiential Learning Initiative (ELI) allows Messiah to take this hands-on learning to a new level by giving students the opportunity to apply what they have learned to various real world contexts--such as an internship/practica, service learning, off-campus program, holding a student leadership position, or participating in undergraduate research.
